It was with great pleasure that the Lord Lieutenant, Alison Millar, handed over the appointment of High Sheriff of County Londonderry to Magherafelt’s Ian Henry MBE. The historic ‘Chain of Office’ ceremony was held at the Causeway Coast and Glens HQ Cloonavin on 7th Jan 2025 in the presence of Deputy Mayor Councillor Tanya Stirling and outgoing High Sheriff Linda Steele from Kilrea.

Ian is Group Director of the family construction firm Henry Brothers, started by his father in 1976 and through dedication and excellence they have excelled from their bases in Magherafelt, Scotland and Nottingham. They take on a diverse range of projects from schools and universities, government and military facilities to ‘Blue Light’ construction – that’s to say of emergency services buildings, and they were behind the outstanding restoration of the listed buildings in and around Antrim Castle Gardens – definitely worth a visit.

Ian was awarded an MBE in 2023 in recognition of his outstanding contribution and services to the economy and to charity in Northern Ireland, he is past President and current board member of the Northern Ireland Chamber of Commerce and Industry and will be the High Sheriff for one year. Ian said, ‘I’m delighted to take on this role and look forward to carrying out duties across our community and County’.

The Lord Lieutenant knows Ian will be a wonderful ambassador for the County of Londonderry and wishes him every success for the year ahead.
