The Lord Lieutenant is delighted to announce the County’s recipients of New Year’s Honours 2025 and thanks all those presented with an honour for their work and commitment to our communities.

MBE

Mrs Margaret Elizabeth Deidre Amor of Londonderry.
An influential educationalist, former Principal of Sion Mills PS and Associate principal at Newbuildings PS she has a record of turning around troubled schools and enriching the lives of children and she is a long serving cross-community volunteer.

Mrs Catherine Mary Clifford of Maghera.
Director of Rural Community Network since 2013, Kate, as she is known, works relentlessly for the provision of facilities and infrastructure in the countryside, supporting rural communities to thrive, aiding peace building in rural areas and articulating their needs at government level.

Ms Hannah Elizabeth Scott of Coleraine.
Millions watched Hannah and her GB quadruple sculls rowing team cross the finishing line to snatch the Gold medal at the Paris Olympics 2024, the culmination of a life dedicated to her sport which began as a young member of the Bann Rowing Club QAVS in Coleraine. A cherished medal to add to her many others from local, All Ireland, European and World Championships. A hugely inspiring young sportswoman.

Chairwoman of the Maghera committee of Cancer Research UK.
Violet is a long-serving and indomitable volunteer fundraiser.

Mr William John Norman Somerville of Limavady.

A community worker in Limavady and district who has given decades of service.

Mr Mervyn Thompson of Coleraine.
Leader of recreational running for very many years including the world’s first beach Parkrun at Portrush and founder of the Portrush 5 mile Road race which raises funds for charity.

Rt Reverend Monsignor Bryan McCanny of Limavady.
Known in Limavady simply as “The Monsignor”, for over 14 years he has worked in a practical, quiet and continuous manner to bridge local divisions.
